Good morning,
Today is "hump day" and after that it will be down hill or short timer as we say.
I did 3 loads of laundry yesterday and then stopped to take a tour of Port-a- Prince. It was not a pleasureable trip, but did show us the pure misery of how these poor people are trying to survive on the streets, broken down buildings, etc. We saw where there had been pretty parks, etc around the president's palace, but any where there was open space it was filled with tent cities.
We did end the evening by going to a pretty nice restuarant right across the street from our compound, but of course we had to walk about a mile around our side to the gate to get out and then back down the other side to get there. Most of us had some kind of seasoned chicken that was pretty good. I didn't want their warm coke as I was afraid I wouldn't sleep, so I had bottled water...but noticed it was bottled in Haiti, so say a prayer that it was OK. Last night it got cooler than any other night and most of them were scrambling for extra sheets, towels, etc. to put on them. I just hunkered down and made it.
People have been so nice to us and as they leave they their left over food, sleeping mattresses, pillows, etc.
Well I need to get to work so I'll sign off for now.
- Jack
